Tom Spiller

Towaco, NJ- Tom Spiller. 82, passed away on Tuesday April 25, 2023 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a brief period of declining health.

 Tom was born May 28, 1940 in Auckland, New Zealand and never stopped traveling the world.  He became a civil engineer and worked on oil rigs in various parts of the ocean, Jamaica, South America, the Middle East, and here in the States as well.  Tom eventually settled in New Jersey to make a home with his wife and partner, Hyacinth Dorman, and their two sons.  He spent the rest of his working life at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

During the winters, Tom was known to travel to the Green Mountains of Vermont where he enjoyed the snow.  He received a lot of remarks and compliments on remaining youthful on his skis, skiing without poles until his last run.  He challenged himself to ski the hardest runs and was proud to have the Outer Limits at Killington Resort to be his final run.

During the summers, Tom delighted in tinkering on his projects, traveling to visit friends and family, kayaking, boating and taking adventures in the RV.  A stellar conversationalist, Tom made friends wherever he ventured.  He was a highly curious person who delighted in learning from people, experiences and science magazines.  He leaves behind his sons and their families, Sean Spiller and his wife Lauren and their children Tyson and Brody, Rich Spiller and his children Justyce and Jaxson.  He also leaves behind his cousins Robert and Valerie Hart.  Additionally his treasured friends and family, including Mikey Samuels, Joan Richards, Sandrene Somaribba, Dr. Gerardina Galella, Maurice Chin, Kathy Rautenbach and the entire Dorman family.  He will be missed terribly by all. 

Tom was predecesed by his wife Hyacinth Spiller, his father Tom Spiller and his mother Daisy Emily Earwaker of Aukland, New Zealand.

A memorial gathering is scheduled for Sunday April 30, 2023 from 1:00pm ~ 3:00pm at Lombardi Funeral Home 9 Smull Avenue Caldwell (Ippolito~Dancy funeral facilty).

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Lustgarten Foundation (lustgarten.org) in memory of Tom's late wife Hyacinth.
