Ruth DeLorenzo Obituary

Long time West Orange Resident, Ruth P. (Saari) DeLorenzo, 92 passed away after a long, full lik on July 3, 2019 at Daughters of Israel LTC, West Orange. A daughter of the late Waino and Estelle (Moulton) Saari. Ruth was born on March 24, 1927 and reared in Rockport, Mass. She attended the Rockport Public Schools and began working in local shops as a young girl; waitressing atJohnny’s Restaurant on ‘ Math Street put her in a prime spot to know all the town news; she enjoyed retelling the tales of old timers who stepped in for a daily mug up and also of her innocent hijinks with childhood friends Ginny Rowe and Muriel Day.

Ruth married Hannibal DeLorenzo in 1946; settling with him in his native NewJersey where she remained until her passing: Together they raised four children in West Orange, NJ, then a growing suburb with housing made ready for the returning servicemen. Later as a single mother, Ruth was a long-time employee at the Turtle Back Zoo; work never interfered with childcare for her beloved grandchildren Shannon Intili (Antonio), Nick McCormick, Jesse and Taylor Deltz, Jameson and Elizabeth Burke, and Frank DeLorenzo in their infancy and early years.

Ruth was gilled with COMMOn sense, a keen perception of self and others, humor, Finnish sisu, an agile mind, independent spirit, 1brtitude, and an indomitable strength and wisdom that buoyed
herself and many others through life’s challenges. Ruth will remain in the hearts and memories of daughter Kathy McCormick (James), Donna Deltz (William), Sarina DeLorenzo and Anthony DeLorenzo (Lorraine); her seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren Frankie and Nikki hiti11i all in Ni; her sister Kathryn E. Bull, San Pedro Calif; many nieces and nephews; and former husband Hannibal, with Ruth during her last days; and all who loved her and whose lives she touched.

She was predeceased by her parents. According to her wishes there will be no funeral services. Following- her cremation, a private inurnment will be planned at a later date in Rockport, Mass.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Lombardi Funeral Home 9 Smull Avenue, Caldwell, NJ.
