Phyllis Dori Sellars was born December 21, 1952 in Newark, NJ to the late Hazel Anna Cruse and David Randolph Ford. Phyllis departed this life on January 18, 2019 at St. Michaels Medical Center, Newark, NJ. As a young girl Phyllis loved to wear the color pink, read poems from Maya Angelou and cook, hobby she continued her whole life.
Phyllis attended Newark Public Schools, She graduated from Central High School. She continued her studies by becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Phyllis was a loving, kind mother and grandmother with a humble spirit who are numerous friends throughout her many years working first at United States Postal Services and then moved on to Broadway House working with patients with AIDS. Some would prove to be life long friendships. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and is fondly remembered for her favorite pastime, cooking and shopping at the Salvation Army. Phyllis loved to help others and she loved her church. She was an active member at New Psalmist Worship Center for more than 20 years before she became ill.
Phyllis was preceded in death by both parents and her oldest daughter Nichole Cheray Ford.
Phyllis leaves to cherish her memories; her husband Edward Sellars, her five children, Alesha, Phillip, Patrick, Shanunte, Khalil; her stepson Shawn; daughter-in-law Robin (Phillip); nine grandchildren) Ray, Tariq, Cereniti, Ravonna, Tashawn, Jeremiah. Mariah, Zakai, Harmony and fourGreat Grandchildren. Phyllis also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and other adopted family (Bowles) and friends.
